Post-Baby Weight Loss

Most of this blog will probably focus on Bug but occassionally the hubs and I will write about what is going on with us as well. I thought I would start with something that is on the minds of many women after having a baby. Weight loss.

I gained approximately 40 pounds while pregnant with Bug. Not bad, but more than the 25-30 pound range that was recommended by my doctor. I lost about 20 pounds right away but that leaves me with another 20 pounds if I want to get back to my pre-baby weight.

At three weeks postpartum I decided to increase my activity level and start looking at my caloric intake. I am waiting to get the okay from my doctor before I start exercising seriously so my activity currently consists of walking. I try to walk 3-4 times a week for a minimum of 30 minutes with my intensity ranging from leisurely strolls with Jared and Bug in my Baby K’tan to brisk solo walks with my iPod blasting.

In order to monitor my caloric intake, I joined the website My Fitness Pal. My Fitness Pal is a free program that tracks what you eat, as well as your exercise. It’s not 100% accurate but gives you an idea. I have only been using it for a week but it has already helped me to see areas where I can improve. For example, I will be cutting out one of the few cravings I had during my pregnancy, Stewart’s Cream Soda.

I decided to share my post-baby weight loss plan on here because I thought that by announcing it to family, friends, and the internet, it would hold me more accountable. I will post updates from time to time and I have also added a badge to the column on the right that shows my progress.
